UTM Link
Builder
Tag your links so Google Analytics shows which post, ad or email brought each visit.
Enter your page URL and fill in the source, medium and campaign name. The tool adds the UTM tags and gives you a link to use in your post, ad or email. Keep the names lowercase and consistent so your reports stay tidy.
Your campaign
Your tagged link
Values are converted to lowercase with underscores so that "Instagram" and "instagram" are not reported as two different sources. Use the same names every time.
Why tag your links
Without tags, a lot of social, email and messaging traffic appears in analytics as "direct" or is grouped together. UTM tags say exactly where a visit came from.
- Source: where it came from, such as instagram or a newsletter name.
- Medium: the type of channel, such as social, email or cpc.
- Campaign: the name of the promotion, such as diwali_offer.
- Term and content are optional, for paid keywords and for telling similar links apart.
Do not use UTM tags on links inside your own website, because they can reset the visit’s original source. Our social media marketing and SEO work includes tracking set-up.
Frequently Asked
Which UTM fields are required?
Google Analytics expects source, medium and campaign. Term and content are optional.
Does it matter if I use capital letters?
Yes. Reports treat "Instagram" and "instagram" as different values, so this tool converts to lowercase for you.
Can I tag links to any website?
You can tag any URL, but the data appears only in the analytics of the site that receives the visit.
Should I tag internal links?
No. Use tags only on links that bring people to your site from outside.
